“The 859th day of the war. It is hard at the front, very hard. The pace of the attack from the Russians is increasing,” explains Major of the National Armed Forces, staff officer of the Zemessardze Janis Slaidins on air at TV24.
In order to accomplish the main task – to break through the Ukrainian front, all possible forces are sent into battle. Losses are growing for both Russian and Ukrainian armed forces: “In Ukraine, there are even units that have lost their combat capability and therefore have been merged with other brigades. This indicates losses. Many are wounded and killed.”
However, Slaidins has some good news: “The front is still holding. There was no breakthrough anywhere. The Russians advanced in some places, but these were small tactical leaps. They were unable to break through, encircle and move on.”
It is very difficult to follow what is happening on the front in one day, because the situation changes very quickly. “According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 189 clashes occurred in one day,” says Major Slaidins. He explains that this is a lot: “All the time before this, there were 120-130 clashes per day.”
In general, the Russians’ actions do not change. They have one tactic – to block the Ukrainian rear forces, encircle them and push them out of their positions.
