WACO, Texas – The No. 24 Baylor men’s tennis team returns to Waco to host two matches once morest Jacksonville State on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT and Nebraska at 6 p.m. CT at Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears are coming off their first loss of the season at the hands of 13th-ranked Arizona. Saturday will be the Bears’ (4-1) first-ever meeting with Jacksonville State (2-2) and their 28th match versus Nebraska (5-1), with Baylor leading the series 24-3.
The last meeting between the Bears and the Cornhuskers was in 2022, where Baylor prevailed, 6-1. Baylor has won 24 straight in the series since 1996.
Tadeas Paroulek sits at No. 32 in the singles rankings and is 1-2 on the season, with losses once morest the No. 5 and No. 10 singles players in the nation. Devin Badenhorst has been steady for BU thus far at a perfect 4-0 in singles in his rookie season.
For Jacksonville State, Liam Day, Alin Fatu, Marko Milosavijevic, Matel Palcau and Xavier Sarda Marti have all tabbed one singles victory this spring. Calvin Mueller and Anton Shepp will lead the Cornhuskers into Waco, boasting 4-2 and 6-0 singles records, respectively.
In doubles, both Paroulek/Zsombor Velcz and Badenhorst/Luc Koenig are 3-1 on the year. Similarly for the Huskers, Lars Johann/Mueller and Leo Linquet/Shunya Murayama are 3-1, while Jax State has three pairings with one win each in three matches.
The morning match once morest Jacksonville State will provide free coffee and donuts for “Breakfast with the Bears,” while supplies last. The nightcap versus Nebraska features tennis-shaped lip balms for those in attendance.
