Bayern Munich shoots down Leipzig and wins the Supercup

Eight-goal spectacle in Leipzig

Bayern sweeps over Bullen and wins the Supercup

Bayern shows Leipzig the master. The Munich team beat the Bulls 5:3 in the highest-scoring German Supercup of all time and thus win the first title of the new season.

Game one after the nine-year Lewandowski era at Bayern Munich. The 344-goal man is gone, the hole in Bayern’s offensive is big – too big? No, because in the 5:3 victory in the Supercup against Leipzig, the record champions did not show any jamming.

After 15 minutes, Jamal Musiala cracked the opponent’s defense after the Bulls failed to clear a Bayern corner. Nkunku equalized just minutes later, but the assistant referee’s flag soars high – offside.

decision before the break

In the Bayern cabinet, it’s then: Curtain up for Sadio Mané. The new signing from Liverpool only needs half an hour for his first competitive goal in Bayern dress. Completely left alone, the Senegalese is served in front of the goal by Gnabry, Leipzig keeper Gulacsi can only watch. Pavard’s hit just before the break seems to be the preliminary decision.

The Munich stand tall, press early and hardly let the Saxons breathe. And yet the hosts brace themselves against the impending debacle. After an hour only Silva beheads the ball to the left crossbar. A little later, Halstenberg is luckier. He heads the ball into the goal – only 1:3.

Rising too late

The heart rate increases among the Bayern supporters. Will the offensive fireworks from Nkunku and Co. begin now? Not for the time being, because Serge Gnabry put his hopes practically at zero seven minutes later. Another bad loss of possession, a quick Bayern counterattack and a Bulls defense that served the German international 4-1 on a silver platter.

But Nkunku and Olmo bring the Saxons back, the trembling begins, the penalty shootout threatens. But it’s not enough, Sané marks the fifth goal instead. Julian Nagelsmann and his team have shown: Even without “Lewy”, the German titles only go through Bayern.
