Bayern boss Kahn admits
“We discussed a Ronaldo transfer”
Cristiano Ronaldo in the Bundesliga? This scenario was entirely conceivable for Bayern Munich. Club boss Oliver Kahn admits that a transfer has been considered in recent weeks.
Bayern have already made a good deal this transfer summer and have already spent a total of over 130 million euros. But in the management team of the German record champions, a much bigger coup was still being discussed. Bayern boss Oliver Kahn (53) now admits this to “Sport Bild”.
Kahn makes it clear that an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo (37) was definitely discussed. “Otherwise we wouldn’t be doing our job well.” But Munich didn’t go on the offensive following all. “We came to the conclusion that despite all the appreciation in the current situation, he would not have suited our philosophy.”
Ronaldo would have disturbed the salary balance
Kahn probably means CR7’s salary above all. He earns up to 29 million euros a year at Manchester United. At Bayern, the Portuguese would be by far the top earner. For comparison: newcomer Sadio Mané (30) should collect around 20 million euros.
Another top scorer is still on Bayern’s radar, as Kahn goes on to say in “Sport Bild”. With the Englishman Harry Kane, the Bundesliga leader has already made his interest clear. Here, however, the Munich team is planning for the long term, a commitment is probably only realistic in the summer of 2023 (when Kane’s contract term at Tottenham is still one year). But the main thing is that the English national team captain, who turns 28 on Thursday, already knows that Bayern are hot for him. (cat)
