Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has once once more expressed his desire for a real six.
Before the 3-1 win once morest FC Augsburg at DAZN, he answered the six-man question in detail and explained what his ideal would be: “Today’s ideal is Josh (Joshua Kimmich, editor’s note) and Leon ( Leon Goretzka), Konni (Konrad Laimer) from the bank. That’s the ideal, that’s life as a coach. You play with the ones you have. You push them to the limit, trying to adapt yourself.”
But Tuchel also indicated quite clearly that he would like to have another player, because: “All three that I mentioned are very similar in my opinion – and there are only three central midfielders that we have too play a key role defensively. After the international break, we don’t have a single week without three games. That’s why we’re not exactly well staffed in terms of numbers…”
The 49-year-old bit back the postscript, which he also meant numerically.
Goretzka comments on the six-man discussion at Bayern
Goretzka, who was once more given preference to Laimer in the starting eleven, was also asked regarding the six-man discussion at DAZN following the game. His answer was initially: “I don’t get that much from it.”
When moderator Laura Wontorra asked whether he read a newspaper, Goretzka replied: “You always get something sent by friends who think you absolutely have to read it. I might do without reading this, too.”
The ex-Schalke player emphasized that he did not want to take part in the discussion, but he also heard his coach’s wish: “The coach said quite clearly that he still wanted something. The club has to decide if that’s ok. We players are left out there.”
Bayern coach Tuchel: “Are similar sixes, almost eights”
Tuchel had previously pointed out what he believed to be the great similarity between Kimmich, Goretzka and Laimer: “There is no better or worse, they are just similar sixes, almost eights. That’s why we play with the double six. We have to see, we still have a few days left. Maybe we’ll do something else. And if not, then we’ll do it with Aleks (Aleksandar Pavlovic, editor’s note) from our U23.”
The Dutchman Ryan Gravenberch, who the coach sees a bit more offensive, was completely missing from Tuchel’s list, instead he preferred to name the only 19-year-old Pavlovic.
DAZN expert Michael Ballack was also able to clearly see that Tuchel was expressing his desire for another six: “Small hidden message that he is not one hundred percent satisfied.”
The Bundesliga transfer window ends on September 1 at 6 p.m.
