Bayern celebrate a befitting 3-0 win at Beckenbauer’s memorial

Bayern Munich returned in style from the winter break on an evening marked by the memory of Franz Beckenbauer. The series champions defeated TSG Hoffenheim 3-0 (1-0) in the Allianz Arena on Friday and reduced the gap to leaders Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga to one point. The man of the game was Jamal Musiala, who scored the first two goals (18th, 70th) – each after assists from Leroy Sane.

Konrad Laimer played as a right-back for Bayern, while his ÖFB teammate Florian Grillitsch played in the center of defense for Hoffenheim. Musiala put the ball into the far corner from a tight angle for his first goal. After the break, the 20-year-old initiated the action himself with a remarkable ball reception and finished after a one-two with Sane. In addition, Musiala hit the bar with a long-range shot in temperatures well below freezing (58th).

Hoffenheim had three great chances to equalize every minute, but were not rewarded (63rd to 65th). Maximilian Beier and Andrej Kramaric failed in his 500th competitive game for FC Bayern either because of Manuel Neuer or the crossbar. When Grischa Prömel also received a yellow-red card for a foul, the game was over (74′). The final point was Bayern’s star striker Harry Kane, who equaled his predecessor Robert Lewandowski’s first-round league record with his 22nd goal of the season (91st).

Bayern have won nine of their last ten league games. Like Leverkusen, they have now played 16 games, but still have a supplementary game against Union Berlin to play. The Leverkusen team, who are still unbeaten this season, will be in action against FC Augsburg on Saturday (3:30 p.m./live Sky), but will have to call on several regular players in their last game of the first half of the season, not least because of the Africa Cup.
