Munich (Bavaria) – Leaders Bayer Leverkusen and defending champions Bayern Munich secured mandatory victories a week before their summit meeting in the German Bundesliga. The Leverkusen team beat bottom team Darmstadt 98 2-0 (1-0) on Saturday and are still two points ahead of Bayern, who won 3-1 (1-1) against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the relegation battle, second-to-last Mainz 05 suffered their next setback in a 0-1 (0-1) draw against Werder Bremen.
