Bayer defends remaining activities in Russia

The German pharmaceutical and agrochemical group Bayer has defended its remaining activities in Russia. “Withholding vital medicines from a cancer patient in St. Petersburg would ultimately mean nothing other than accepting the deaths of other civilians,” said Bayer CEO Werner Baumann today at the company’s online general meeting. “That wouldn’t help anyone.”

The Leverkusen group has already reacted to the Russian leadership’s war and stopped and investments in Russia. “We have stopped all expenses in Russia that are not directly related to our indispensable products,” said the Bayer boss.

At the same time, one feels “an ethical obligation” for the civilian population in Russia. “This completely senseless war has already cost a great many lives.”
