MEMBER of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) RI Puadi said there was a need for an evaluation of election crimes that reflected the handling of the 2024 Election. The evaluation is expected to be a solution to various obstacles from existing experience.
According to Puadi, evaluation can be carried out by identifying problems from various aspects and cases that are considered interesting. This effort is also considered to be used to prepare references in facing the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in November 2024.
He said that the evaluation carried out must target legislative aspects, namely Law Number 7/2017 concerning Elections which is lex specialist in nature with a fairly fast handling time for criminal acts. Some of the problems faced by Bawaslu are related to the application of legal norms that have multiple interpretations, are not adaptive, and there is a legal vacuum.
“So it makes the time to handle violations take a long time to note one aspect of the legislation,” said Puadi in a written statement quoted on Thursday (28/3).
Apart from that, he also highlighted the technical aspects of the readiness of the Integrated Law Enforcement Center (Gakkumdu) which is staffed by Bawaslu, police and prosecutors from the central to district/city levels. According to him, mutual understanding of the elements that make up the Gakkumdu Center needs to be sharpened and solidified.
Puadi revealed several interesting cases during the handling of criminal acts in the 2024 Election. These cases can be a reference for facing the 2024 Regional Election and strengthening the Gakkumdu Center at the district/city level so that it can work even better.
“Such as (actually what) is meant by falsifying documents, involving village heads, campaigning outside the schedule, what is called money politics. There is also a recommendation from Bawaslu to hold a PSU (re-voting) due to Indonesian citizens voting more than once with criminal handling ,” he explained. (Tri/Z-7)
