Bavarian Club’s Disappointing Performance Raises Concerns Ahead of Bundesliga Resumption

Corrected 0-3 by Leipzig during the German Super Cup on Saturday, Bayern Munich showed worrying shortcomings before the resumption of the Bundesliga on August 18 against Werder. After the meeting, Thomas Tuchel, the manager of the Bavarian club, did not hide his dissatisfaction by openly criticizing his players.

Thomas Tuchel did not, but then did not appreciate the performance of his men at all on Saturday evening. Swept 0-3 at the Allianz Arena by Leipzig, with a hat-trick from Dani Olmo, during the German Super Cup, Bayern Munich completely missed out on their first official match of the 2023-2024 season. And it was not the entry of Harry Kane at the hour mark that appeased the disappointment of the Bavarian supporters.

“I’m just sorry for Kane, he probably thinks we haven’t trained for four weeks,” said the former PSG coach after the Sky microphone meeting. “Our performance today was nothing like what we expected for this game. It’s a very bitter night.”

“It’s scary because I don’t recognize anything anymore”

The German manager continued his remonstrances by expressing his total incomprehension about such a performance. “When I see the will, the enthusiasm, the form, the condition and the atmosphere when we played against Liverpool, Monaco or Manchester City (in the preparation matches), it has nothing to do with what we showed today. It’s scary, because I don’t recognize anything anymore. Neither what we wanted to do in terms of content nor how we played. There is nothing to keep, the way and the result are terrifying.”

Seeming unable to identify the reasons for such a failure, Thomas Tuchel seemed almost resigned listening to his answers. “I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such a discrepancy between our form, our preparation and what we get on the pitch. It’s inexplicable for me at the moment (…) It was like that last season , where we were confused and didn’t know what was going to happen at times. We came back to this today, but I don’t know why. There is no objective reason for this. It’s mental, I don’t I have no idea why it looked like that.”

The German champions will have to pull themselves together quickly and this next Friday against Werder (8:30 p.m.) for the first day of the Bundesliga.
