While red was previously the main color of Bayern Munich’s home shirts, next season will see white join the party: the Bavarian club have unveiled their new home shirt for the 2023-2024 financial year. A way to pay homage to the 1965 tunic.
In the fight with Borussia Dortmund for the title of German champion, Bayern Munich unveiled this Wednesday the home jersey planned for next season. Unlike the usual tunic dominated by red, white, usually in the minority, will take up much more space.
In order to mark the occasion, Adidas has chosen to place the red at the level of the sleeves. This in order to pay tribute to the jersey worn by the Bavarians in 1965, the year in which the current German giant had risen to the Bundesliga. Inside the collar will be the inscription “Rot Weiß ein Leben lang” (red and white for life), accompanied by the famous “Mia san mia”. The jersey number will also get a new look.
Müller: “The new home jersey symbolizes the success story of FC Bayern Munich”
While certain rumors sent him away from Bayern Munich a few days ago, Thomas Müller, who had ironically denied it, was delighted to be able to wear this tunic highlighting the history of his lifelong club: “The red colors and white have accompanied me throughout my life. With this traditional design, the new home shirt symbolizes the success story of FC Bayern Munich.”
Club player since 2018, midfielder Lina Magull also commented on this tunic: “When you think of FC Bayern, you immediately have images in red and white in front of your eyes (…) The new shirt combines the history and elegance – and we want to live up to those colors.”
Author of a contrasting first season and despite his uncertain future, Sadio Mané appears on the presentation video. The same for Benjamin Pavard, present on one of the posters, whose contract extension is still uncertain (under contract until June 2024).
