Bautista pressures Aldo and lands some kicks to the calf. After pinning Aldo against the cage, Bautista goes for a takedown. Aldo defends it easily and both fighters end up in a stalemate. After that, Bautista continues to attack in volume to occupy Aldo. However, Aldo initiates his own attack and starts to let loose with combinations. The round ends just before the match heats up.

Bautista starts to press forward again but shows an open wound by his eye. Aldo starts landing hard jabs which makes Bautista dive on his leg. However, Aldo defends against the takedown and begins to box with his opponent. Both fighters end up in a clinch and Bautista gets a warning from the referee that he needs to work. After they are separated, they start boxing again. Aldo shows his defensive wrestling is still elite level after Bautista dives again.

Bautista then starts jabbing him from distance and avoids Aldo’s punches. He goes for another takedown and gets Aldo back on the cage. The referee separates both fighters but right after Bautista dives for another takedown! Aldo knows he has to do something and starts chasing his opponent but ends up on the cage again. However, it is too late and the match ends.

It becomes a split decision with Bautista deemed the winner. It might not have been the most crowd-friendly match but Bautista implemented a smart plan. He knew Aldo would do nothing but just defend when Bautista wrestled.
