It was created in 1973 to embody a form of freedom, offbeat elegance and a positive philosophy of life. Inspired by the art of living under the sun of the Côte d’Azur, the Riviera also continues to embody, decade following decade, Baume & Mercier’s mastery of design and refined watchmaking relaxation.
Although reinterpreted in 2021, the signature collection of the Swiss house remains immediately recognizable by its twelve-sided bezel, its pure and taut lines, its timeless sport-chic look. Her fiftieth birthday gives her the opportunity to come back in June, dressed as a diver. Water-resistant to 30 atm (i.e. 300 m), the new Riviera Azur 42 mm sports a strong, assertive, powerful look.
On the blue or gray translucent fumé dial streaked with waves, the hands are athletic. Extremely legible as it should be for a diver’s watch, they are partly charged with beige or gray radiating SuperLuminova. The iconic dodecagonal bezel in satin-brushed stainless steel also goes into diver mode.
Its unidirectional rotating construction makes it possible to calculate immersion times and its blue or black lacquer treatment marks the graduation of the first fifteen minutes. Another practical detail, it is equipped with a solid geometric crown guard and ergonomic notches for quick and precise handling. All this gives the Riviera Azur a particularly dynamic design.
This beautiful diver’s watch is therefore superbly suited to all water sports: sailing, surfing, swimming, jet-skiing… Its automatic movement, the Baumatic manufacture automatic caliber, ensures a carefree power reserve of five days and high protection once morest the magnetisms of everyday life.
The mechanical freedom of movement with proven performance since 2017 also drives three steel versions in an all-new 39 mm format. The Baumatic gears appear transparently in a blue smoked sapphire dial and two gray smoked sapphire dials, one of which is surrounded by a bead-blasted titanium bezel. On the wardrobe side, their interchangeable straps contribute to the look: steel, rubber and blue alligator or textured gray rubber with a canvas look.
While these latest additions to the Riviera family have been designed to be “genderless”, the 2023 collection pays particular tribute to women. Two sizes of 33 mm and 36 mm, an integrated three-row metal bracelet and no less than five new colorful and sophisticated dials adorn their wrist. The star piece features a dazzling golden satin-brushed sunburst dial dotted with delicate waves. Subtle halo of light underlined by luminescent hour markers with blue emission, it seems to borrow the brilliance of the sand from the chic beaches of the Croisette in Cannes.
Its solar elegance, seductive day and night, is illuminated by four diamonds set on the steel bezel, while its heart beats to the rhythm of a Swiss made automatic movement. A watch that is both star and sport recommended for strong personalities!

The most dazzling of the new feminine versions, the Riviera Automatic Date, adorns its 33 millimeters of steel with a golden dial with delicate finishes and a bezel set with four diamonds. Golden faceted hands, bluish indexes in the dark, integrated bracelet in polished-satin steel interchangeable without tools.
Singular, from drawing to the deep end
Designed in the early 1970s by watch designer Jean-Claude Gueit, the Riviera embodies in sport-chic fashion the design expertise and relaxed elegance of Baume & Mercier. In June 2023, it will be reinforced with a diver’s version with athletic charms: steel, 42 mm, water resistance 30 atm. On the front side, we can make out the Baumatic self-winding caliber under the blue or gray smoked sapphire crystal. The battery side reveals part of the mechanism that provides the five-day power reserve.

Perpetuating the spirit of the Riviera in a new chromatic mood, one of the three new Baumatic 39mm versions combines the depth of a translucent gray dial, the power of a bead-blasted titanium bezel and the textured strength of a bracelet. Brown canvas look rubber.
