Let’s not forget that Baudelaire is a man in love. Baudelaire is fined for “insult to public morals“. He will also come to Belgium to publish a new version of the Flowers of Evilwith additions and deletion of the six offending poems, poems which remained condemned until 1949.
Indeed, on May 31, 1949, the criminal chamber of the Court of Cassation at the Palais de justice in Paris rehabilitated the book by finally recognizing that there was no obscene term, no coarseness in it. The evil flowers !
