Game News Battlefield 2042: The petition flies away, Electronic Arts faces more than 150,000 disgruntled people
The days go by and look alike for the last episode of Battlefield. Scheduled to be Electronic Arts’ big end-of-year license, the aptly named 2042 was swept away by a whirlwind of disgruntled gamers. Bugs galore, performance below expectations, inaccessible servers… DICE’s game has it all! The case, taken seriously, led to the posting of a petition to demand a refund from the publisher. And it continues to receive signatures.
If we are to believe the words of Tom Hendersonthe development of Battlefield 2042 debuted in 2018, right following the release of Battlefield V. At the time, Electronic Arts, like many publishers, felt Battle Royale was the way to go and so the publisher asked the Swedish team at DICE to copy the trends of the time. It is on this basis that the new BF took shape, but the staff was finally forced to backpedal in the spring of 2020 by including 128 players, specialist classes and the Battle Royale, as it had been thought, was incorporated into Hazard Zone mode. The problem is that by doing so, the development team ended up in a development-marathon that really started in the summer of 2020. Clearly, according to Tom Henderson and Crash Games, the production of the game did not exceed 1 year and three months. Since then, several voices have been raised to deny this information, but the damage is done.
A PETITION THAT IS APPROACHING A NEW LEVEL
A month following it went online, the petition by Satoshi Nakamoto, demanding a full refund, flirts with 170,000 signatures. Addressed to Sony, DICE, Steam and Microsoft, it first reached a first level of 30,000 signatures, then a second of 100,000 and continues to progress. At the time yours truly writes these lines, EA’s game has still lost 33% of its attendance on Steam and is regarding to drop below 3,000 players on this same platform. For a title sold at 70 euros, the pill does not pass and many players believe, to date, that Battlefield 2042 is an unfinished work which has been marketed at full price. Of course, not all players are unhappy and many are enjoying the latest episode of Battlefield, but it is undeniable that the petition continues to progress.
For now, we do not yet know what the purpose of this action will be. It seems unlikely that a full refund will be put in place, unless the instigator of this petition appeals, as he indicates, to a specialized lawyer. And even in such a situation, it will probably take time for a decision to be made. Considering the conditions of Sony, Microsoft and Steam, which offer a two-week window for a refund, this seems very complicated. It is also important to note that future patches should allow the game to gain in stability.
