Since its launch on November 19, Battlefield 2042 has multiplied the missteps… And it seems that it is not regarding to stop.

In Breakthrough mode, the 128-player mode is no more!

Just a few days ago Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, spoke on an investor call to announce that Battlefield 2042 still had a bright future ahead of it despite a disastrous start, to say the least. However, when we go to the game’s official website today, we can see a message that is alarming to say the least, which will certainly make many fans react: Battlefield 2042 is ready to part ways with one of its biggest promises, its Breakthrough mode with 128 players!

In this update, we are making several changes to All-Out Warfare rotations. Our main change is the removal of the 128 player version of Breakthrough. DICE

You read that right, starting tomorrow when the next Battlefield 2042 update is released, it will no longer be possible to walk the field alongside 127 other aspiring soldiers in the Breakthrough mode, since this option will simply be deleted. The reason ? She is simple! According to DICE and Electronic Arts, the 128-player Breakthrough mode was not suitable for team play due to too intense confrontations.

In 128-player Breakthrough mode, a player’s or squad’s usefulness and impact on the flow of the game is limited by the intensity of the chaos. (…) We concluded that the 64-player version of Breakthrough represented a more tactical experience. Reducing the number of players helps alleviate the chaos of the experience, and with fewer combat vehicles available, you’ll be able to hold the front line more effectively. You will also have more space to work together and fulfill your individual function. DICE

As you can see, Breakthrough mode will only offer 64-player games to make the experience less messy and more tactical.

So in Breakthrough 64, it will be easier for squads to cooperate, whether that’s outflanking the enemy, planting a respawn beacon, or using the menu to set up silencers before securing and holding a point. A squad will be able to turn the tide of battle. We think limiting Breakthrough to 64 players will restore the rhythm that promotes teamwork and goal play. We will continue to investigate how our changes improve the experience before the start of Season 1. DICE

From 128 players in other modes?

If living battles confronting 128 players on a single map is important to you, you will now have to turn to Conquest mode; a more open game mode that lends itself much better to chaos according to DICE.

When we looked at the experiences available in All-Out Warfare, we noticed that the 128-player version was more suited to Conquest mode and its vast spaces, which lends itself better to the sandbox dimension.

Do you think DICE and Electronic Arts were right to reduce Breakthrough mode to 64 players? Let us know your opinion in the comments.
