EA’s FPS has not yet said its last word. Faced with a more than complicated launch and an attendance that obviously does not live up to expectations, Battlefield 2042 is doing everything to correct its course… and this might go through the microtransactions box.

Soon something new for Battlefield 2042?

Released in November 2021, Battlefield 2042 unfortunately acts as an ugly duckling at Electronic Arts: several times, the publisher has expressed his disappointment with the title, obviously not up to what the upper echelons of the company might hope for. The game is still very effective and above all, it tries to catch up with major corrective updates: patch 4.0 notably deployed the heavy artillery with no less than 400 bugs removed and optimizations. Shortly before that, a (yet elementary) feature was also added to the FPS.

So what will DICE do to refine the experience in the future? According to a dataminer (whose role is to dig into a game’s files to unearth its secrets) who looked into the 4.0 update, the firm was working on… microtransactions. Clear and obvious traces of an online store have indeed been detected, with supporting images.

Microtransactions and cosmetic bonuses to the program

According to these elements, EA would therefore plan to include microtransactions in its flagship FPS: an effective way to build community loyalty while engaging players. To do this, cosmetic elements would thus be provided for soldiers, weapons and vehicles; XP boosts would also be included.

Players would thus have the possibility to buy virtual currency and moreover, even the prizes were found in the game files ! However, let us try to clarify that as it stands, Electronic Arts has not yet formalized anything… and can therefore very well review its plans, if it deems it relevant. In other words, if microtransactions seem to be happening well in Battlefield 2042do not take this leak at face value (no pun intended), in the case of a backpedal.
