“It’s not fair to capture Kiev and which is a city of three million people, the equivalent of Montreal, so it’s not done and even if the Russians capture Kiev, the real challenge will be to hold Kiev over time,” says Richard Giguère.

According to him, the Russian president underestimated some aspects of Ukraine.

“It is certain that when you look at the forces present, the advantage is given to the Russian forces, but there is a factor which I think is minimized a little, it is the Ukrainian population which has been called upon to take up arms in addition to the army and the difference is that the Ukrainians are fighting at home and they will defend every inch,” said the retired brigadier general.

This war, which started 4 days ago, did not give the Russian army a great victory, according to him.

“What is obvious is that the Russian advance is not happening at the pace that Vladimir Putin hoped for,” said Mr. Giguère.
