For months Ukraine feared for the southern port city of Mariupol, but Kiev is now focusing on Sievjerodonetsk. The city, originally with around 100,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the Luhansk region not yet controlled by Russia and accordingly has high strategic and symbolic value. Even if the Ukrainian armed forces are doing everything to prevent Sieverodonetsk from suffering the same fate as Mariupol, the enemy troops are advancing step by step.
