Dakar, July 12 (APS) – The daily newspapers continue to relay the battle for succession open within Benno Bokk Yaakaar (BBY) for the choice of its candidate for the presidential election of February 25, 2024.
”President Macky Sall […] has his work cut out for him. Names are put forward, including those of Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, Mahammed Dionne, Aly Ngouille Ndiaye and Antoine Diome, who are maneuvering to replace him. Other suitors are in ambush to carry the beige-brown candidacy, ”we read in Tribune.
More than 10 leaders of the Alliance for the Republic, the political party of the head of state, are candidates for the candidacy of BBY, according to the same newspaper.
Bés Bi Le Jour speaks of a “fratricidal duel” between Amadou Ba, the Prime Minister, and the President of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, in view of the succession of Macky Sall.
”Amadou Ba and Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo, the two main personalities approached, clash”, he notes.
According to Source A, the leadership of the Socialist Party has committed a violation of its “texts” regarding the nomination of a candidate for the presidential election.
”Aminata Mbengue Ndiaye [et] some party officials, including Abdoulaye Wilane, Ali Mané and Aïda Sow Diawara, have decided to give carte blanche to Macky Sall for the choice of a candidate,” says the newspaper.
Source A adds that the political office of the Socialist Party, ”which did not meet”, is the authority empowered to choose the candidate of the said political formation or that of Benno Bokk Yaakaar.
Sud Quotidien is of the opinion that ”the choice of the candidate of the presidential majority […] will not be so simple for the President of the Republic, Macky Sall”.
WalfQuotidien evokes ”the dependence of the allies on Macky Sall”. ”Outside the Benno Bokk Yaakaar coalition, no salvation […] seems to be the conviction of the allies of President Macky Sall”, he writes, believing that ”the time is right for them to regain their independence”, following the President of the Republic has decided not to be a candidate in 2024 .
” Things are no longer going well between Bayern and Sadio Mané ”
L’Observateur and Le Quotidien are concerned regarding the investiture of Ousmane Sonko.
”While Ousmane Soko is ineligible for the presidential election of February 2024, following his sentence to two years in prison, in the case opposing him to Adji Sarr, Pastef-Les patriotes has decided to invest it officially, which specialists […] qualify as a communication stunt,” we read in L’Observateur.
”The Pastef remains determined to present Ousmane Sonko for the presidency while its leader is dismissed by article L29 of the Electoral Code”, reports Le Quotidien.
According to the leaders of Pastef-Les patriotes, the nomination of candidate Ousmane Sonko is scheduled for Saturday 15 July. But they do not say where the inauguration meeting will be held, according to Le Quotidien.
Illegal emigration is also mentioned in the daily newspapers.
Liberation considers Kafountine, a town located in the south of Senegal, as a “place of departures and dramas” for migrants.
It is from this locality that several boats carrying missing migrants have left for several days, according to several newspapers.
”Greenpeace Africa challenges public policies”, reports Kritik’.
Trawlers from other countries ”destroy the environment, deplete fish stocks, deprive artisanal fishers of their livelihoods and contribute to economic distress”, says Kritik’ quoting the non-governmental organisation.
These trawlers, in this way, push “many people to take enormous risks, in perilous journeys, in search of a better life”, denounces Greenpeace Africa.
”The season of dramas”, title EnQuête, adding: ”The tragedies multiply at sea, and the announcement of the disappearance of 300 migrants causes dread.”
According to the same newspaper, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Aïssata Tall Sall, denied the information reporting the disappearance at sea of migrants who left Senegal.
“Things are no longer going well between Bayern and Sadio Mané”, headlines Le Soleil.
The German club ”plans to part ways with no less than seven [joueurs] including Sadio Mané”, announces the newspaper.
