Tuomas Katainen, the owner of a pre-owned 2013 Model S purchased less than 18 months prior, declined to foot the hefty repair cost.
Instead, the Finnish Tesla driver enlisted the services of “Bomb Dudes,” a YouTube channel specializing in controlled explosions.
The YouTube team went all out, even constructing a likeness of Tesla’s renowned CEO, Elon Musk, for the spectacle.
Katainen himself had the honor of initiating the detonation, using 66 pounds of explosives to obliterate his vehicle.
Footage of the spectacular explosion quickly spread online, prompting calls from internet users for Musk to provide Katainen with a replacement car.
Tesla remained silent in response to inquiries.
Tesla’s standard warranty covers eight years or 150,000 kilometers, but this protection is void if unauthorized individuals tamper with or repair the battery.
