Battery electric cars account for 15 percent of new registrations

An increase of +11.2 percent following ten registration months in 2022 shows the statistics for new registrations of cars with alternative drives – electric (BEV), hybrid, plug-in, fuel cell, gas and hydrogen. More than a quarter of the new registrations (26.8 percent/+10.7 percent) were new vehicles with an electric drive (electric (BEV), plug-in, fuel cell). New registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEV) accounted for 14.8 percent in the reporting period, an increase of +21.3 percent.

45.8 percent of new passenger car registrations were therefore equipped with alternative drives. Among the alternatively powered passenger cars of German brands, Audi was still ahead within its new car fleet with a share of 69.1 percent (-1.8 percent) even following ten registration months. BMW followed closely behind with a share of 65.0 percent (+16.9 percent). At Mercedes, half of the new cars were equipped with an alternative drive, at 50.0 percent (+16.6 percent). Rising shares were also seen at Ford (47.3 percent / +21.9 percent), Mini (33.1 percent / +15.7 percent) and Opel (19.6 percent / +40.0 percent). The fleet shares at Porsche (25.9 percent/-18.6 percent) and VW (18.1 percent/-23.6 percent), on the other hand, declined.

Import brands accounted for 48.1 percent of all newly registered passenger cars with alternative drives in the first ten months. Among the import brands with five-digit numbers of new registrations, Suzuki (99.9 percent/-0.1 percent) and Volvo (92.7 percent/+3.9 percent) achieved shares of more than 90 percent within their fleets. Toyota (68.6 percent / +2.5 percent), Hyundai (65.4 percent / +0.3 percent), Nissan (62.4 percent / +145.7 percent) and Mazda (62.3 percent / +). 12.5 percent) each achieved more than 60 percent. More than half of the new car fleets from Fiat (59.8 percent / +68.9 percent), Renault (56.1 percent / +24.7 percent) and Kia (54.3 percent / +20.4 percent) had an alternative drive. Seat achieved a share of 34.1 percent (+4.0 percent). Skoda was -27.9 percent behind the same period, with a share of 15.8 percent.

The German brands accounted for a total of 49.7 percent of newly registered passenger cars with electric drives in the reporting period. Mini achieved the largest share within its fleet (33.1 percent/+15.7 percent), followed by BMW (29.9 percent/+22.5 percent) and Mercedes (29.7 percent/-8.6 percent) . Porsche (25.8 percent/-18.9 percent) achieved a good quarter, Audi (24.5 percent/-6.5 percent) was just below. At Ford (20.7 percent / +31.0 percent) and Opel (19.6 percent / +40.0 percent) the share increased once more, while VW recorded a decrease of -27.6 percent with a share of 15, 5 percent. With 59,571 units among the German brands, VW registered the most new cars with an electric drive, closely followed by Mercedes (55,772) and BMW (50,406).

The brands Volvo (48.0 percent / +6.0 percent), Mitsubishi (46.5 percent / +77.5 percent), Peugeot (45.5 percent / + 59.6 percent) and Hyundai (40.5 percent/+27.4 percent) each have a share of more than 40 percent within their fleets. Renault (36.8 percent/+17.2 percent), Kia (36.7 percent/+15.0 percent) and Fiat (32.5 percent/+140.7 percent) each achieved shares of more than 30 percent, Fiat recorded the strongest increase among those named. Seat achieved a share of 29.3 percent (+10.6 percent), Skoda achieved a share of 13.7 percent (-29.7 percent) in the reporting period.

The German brand Smart registered 8,807 electric (BEV) passenger cars, thereby achieving a fleet share of 100 percent. In the reporting period, VW achieved the largest total volume with a total of 37,755 electric (BEV) cars, the share was 9.8 percent (-29.5 percent). With 9025 electric (BEV) cars, Mini achieved a share of 27.5 percent (+31.0 percent). Opel (16.0 percent/+58.4 percent), Audi (11.9 percent/+72.5 percent) and BMW (10.5 percent/+61.5 percent) once more achieved shares of more than 10 in the reporting period Percent. At Mercedes (9.2 percent/+87.8 percent) and Ford (4.0 percent/+135.3 percent), the share of electric (BEV) cars was in the single-digit range, following some significant increases.

Tesla continued to lead the imported brands as the brand with the highest share and volume with a share of 100 percent and 41,643 electric (BEV) passenger cars. Five-digit new registration figures added up following ten registration months at Hyundai (27.7 percent / +15.4 percent), Fiat
(32.5 percent / +140.7 percent), Renault (31.9 percent / +27.1 percent) and Peugeot (29.9 percent / +40.4 percent). With a total volume of 4,428 electric vehicles (BEV), Polestar achieved a share of 99.5 percent (+0.2 percent). (awm)
