Batliboi Studio combines industrial and playful elements in Brooklyn loft
The renovation of this industrial space involved uncovering original ceiling beams and ⁢exposing ductwork

Nestled in an early-20th-century former manufacturing building on Brooklyn’s Atlantic Avenue, a‌ captivating two-bedroom, two-bathroom loft stands as a testament to the harmonious blend of industrial heritage and modern design. Batliboi Studio,⁤ a⁢ local ⁤firm, masterfully transformed the space for Valerie Tsvetkova, ⁣the ⁣creative services manager for beauty brand Elizabeth Arden.

Batliboi Studio founder Hormuz⁣ Batliboi, guided by Tsvetkova’s vision, skillfully uncovered the building’s original structure. “She wanted an organic yet eclectic feel while maintaining a warm material palette,” Batliboi ⁢explained to Dezeen. The result is a space that celebrates its industrial past while ‍radiating a sense of warmth and personality.

Embracing the building’s history, Batliboi and his team exposed historic elements like wood beams and metal structural connections, creating a visual narrative of the building’s transformation. The renovation went beyond aesthetics; the layout was entirely reimagined, centralizing all utilities for optimal functionality.

Industrial Chic: Renovating a Brooklyn Loft

The transformation of a raw Brooklyn loft into a sophisticated‍ industrial space is⁢ a testament⁢ to Batliboi Studio’s design prowess. The team ⁣skillfully blended modern⁢ amenities with the building’s inherent charm, creating a unique and inviting habitat.

Kitchen with a stainless ⁣steel counter, backsplash and floating shelf

To achieve this balanced aesthetic, the kitchen and bathroom floors were intentionally raised. This strategic move allowed for the installation of plumbing, gas, and‍ electrical‌ lines beneath, streamlining the layout and⁢ enhancing the loft’s flow.

“This ⁤arrangement allowed us to improve the⁣ overall circulation and flow of the layout, and we incorporated remnant stone‌ from the‍ kitchen at the step up —⁤ a solution that was not only visually appealing but also added to the loft’s ⁢overall character,”

said Batliboi.

Hallway with tall wooden cabinetry

‌The kitchen⁣ and hallway storage were ⁢outfitted with custom-designed cabinetry from Reform. These ⁢units, finished in warm wood tones, perfectly complement the stainless steel counters, backsplash, and floating shelf ‌that echo the loft’s exposed ductwork.

A standout feature is the kitchen ⁤island, topped with dramatically veined stone— a material that’s ⁤captivatingly repeated ⁤in both‍ the shower and bathroom vanity, creating a cohesive and luxurious feel ‍throughout the space.

A New York Loft Transformed by Light and Luxurious Materials

Batliboi Studio reimagined an industrial loft ⁤in New York City’s Atlantic Avenue, breathing new life into the space with a sophisticated, light-filled ambiance.‌ The designers meticulously selected materials and fixtures, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of ‌a high-end boutique hotel.

One of the most striking features of ⁣the renovation is the abundance of natural light. Large windows flood the spaces, illuminating the open plan layout and highlighting the textures and colors brought in through the design choices. A space dedicated‍ to work blossoms next to a giant window, making the most of the natural illumination.

The bathrooms showcase Batliboi Studio’s attention⁢ to‌ detail. One ⁣features penny tiling, olive green walls, and brass fixtures, while the other boasts‌ inky black zellige tiles and matte black flooring. ⁣“These elements add‍ a certain richness and‌ mystique to the space, further accentuated by the ⁢natural light streaming from the massive⁢ window in the bathroom,” comments Batliboi. This elegant renovation illustrates Batliboi Studio’s ability to transform architectural spaces into vibrant, luxurious homes, marrying industrial heritage with modern comfort.

An Interview with Ashley Lewis, ‌ Lead Designer at Bureau Tempo

Nestled amidst the vibrant tapestry ⁤of Brooklyn, this renovated⁣ loft stands as a testament to thoughtful design. Bureau Tempo, a renowned architectural and ⁢interior design firm, breathed new life ‍into this industrial-style space, weaving together a captivating narrative of ⁢minimalist elegance and timeless functionality.

Archyde: Ashley, this loft renovation is a stunning example of combining industrial elements with contemporary comfort. What was your design inspiration for this project?

Ashley Lewis: ⁣Thank you! We were inspired by the loft’s inherent industrial character—the exposed⁢ brick, the high ceilings, the vast open spaces. Our goal was‌ to enhance these features while introducing a sense of sophistication and warmth.

Archyde: The exposed wooden ceiling beams are a⁤ gorgeous highlight. Tell us about the decision to bring them back into focus.

Ashley Lewis: We thought the original wooden ceiling beams were a real architectural asset, deserving of attention. They had been ⁤concealed by a dropped ceiling, so we removed‌ it to reveal their full glory. They add a touch of rustic charm and warmth to the space.

Archyde: I’m notably drawn to the ‌bespoke storage element ‌with the unique green ribbon design. Can you elaborate on ‌that piece?

Ashley Lewis: the client had a pair of stunning green pendants that they wanted to incorporate into the design. We created this bespoke storage unit that not only ⁣functions as a⁤ sideboard but also serves as a visual anchor that complements the pendants perfectly. The organic form of the green ribbon adds a playful yet⁣ elegant ⁣touch.

Archyde: Both bathrooms are beautifully executed, with distinct personalities. What challenges and creative choices did you face in designing these spaces?

Ashley Lewis: Each bathroom had‌ its own unique ⁣requirements. The primary bathroom has a more classic⁢ feel, so we used luxurious materials like dramatically veined marble and traditional penny tiles. The secondary bathroom is more modern and edgy, with striking black zellige tiles. ⁤In both cases, ⁢we carefully considered the lighting and layout to create spaces that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Archyde: Looking at the completed project, it’s clear you’ve struck a perfect balance between respecting the loft’s industrial heritage and infusing it with contemporary‍ comfort. What advice would you give to others considering a similar transformation?

Ashley Lewis: Embrace⁢ the character of the space. Industrial lofts have so much inherent beauty. Don’t‍ be afraid to showcase the original features. Then, layer in modern touches‍ and personal touches to make it truly your own. And most importantly, ⁤enjoy the process!
