Batista calls up 41 players for double qualifying date in September

The coach of the Venezuelan national football team, Fernando “Bocha” Batista, called up 41 players for the double date of World Cup qualifiers that La Vinotinto will play in September.

The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) announced on Monday the list of players called to face the matches, where the presence of eight youth players stands out. It is worth remembering that the national team will face Bolivia on the 5th and will receive Uruguay on the 10th of next month.

Among the under-20 players who appear in the squad are Anzoategui’s David Martínez and Nicola Profeta. Compared to the Copa América list, the only absence is Wilker Ángel, who recently suffered an injury to his left knee at his club, Criciúma in Brazil’s first division.

Broad call

As this is a double qualifying date that includes a match at altitude in Bolivia, there was much talk about the possible selection that coach Batista would make to face both that match and the subsequent match against Uruguay.

Some speculated about a large squad to split the team in two, as coach César Farías did in the World Cup pre-match for South Africa 2010. At that time, Farías prepared an alternate squad, with players who mostly played in Venezuelan football, and took the three points in La Paz, almost 3,700 meters above sea level (masl), after winning 1-0.

Later, the squad of regular players played against the Uruguayan team in Puerto Ordaz and the match ended 2-2, allowing Venezuela to continue in the fight, although Venezuela was unable to go to the World Cup.

With a roster of 41 players, Batista is expected to do something similar, or at least prepare a mixed team to face the duel, which will not be in La Paz, but in El Alto, at 4,100 meters above sea level.

Summoned

The squad includes four goalkeepers, 14 defenders, 18 midfielders and five forwards.

The goalkeepers are Rafael Romo, Joel Graterol, José David Contreras and Alain Baroja (who plays for Always Ready in Bolivia, a club based in El Alto).

The usual suspects have been called up for the back line: Alexander González, Jon Aramburu, Yordan Osorio, Jhon Chancellor, Christian Makoun, Carlos Vivas, Miguel Navarro and Nahuel Ferraresi. There are also new additions such as Delvin Alfonzo, Rubén Ramírez, Yiandro Raap, Luis Balbo, Alessandro Milani and Bianneider Tamayo.

In the midfield area, captain Tomas Rincon, Yangel Herrera, Cristian Casseres Jr., Jose Andres Martinez, Daniel Pereira and Telasco Segovia appear. Among those with a little more offensive vocation are Darwin Machis, Jefferson Savarino, Yeferson Soteldo, Matias Lacava, Kervin Andrade, Eduard Bello and John Murillo.

There are also new additions to the midfield, both defensively and offensively. Nicola Profeta, David Martínez, Bryant Ortega, Giovanny Sequera and Leenhan Romero are on the list.

Gunners

Those who will be responsible for scoring goals are José Salomón Rondón, Erick Ramírez and Jhonder Cádiz, with the additions of Alejandro Gomes and Lorenzo D’Agostini.

According to the FVF, the eight young players who appear on the list of the senior team will also be part of a module of the under-20 team, led by Ricardo Valiño, along with 12 other players.
