Unknown people placed the container on the rails at a level crossing shortly before a regional train passed by, but the train driver saw it in time and was able to brake.
The incident was reported by Umberto De Gregorio, president of Eav, the public transport company for the southern Italian region of Campania, who posted a photo of the bathtub on Facebook.
“Time and concentration to avoid accidents”
“Fortunately, the driver had the time and concentration to brake and thus avoid a catastrophe,” explained De Gregorio.
It is not yet clear who put the bathtub on the tracks. Corresponding investigations have been initiated. “Acts of vandalism are the order of the day here. This irresponsible Akrion might have had terrible and dramatic consequences for thousands of passengers,” criticized De Gregorio.
