Heavy rainfall, the accumulation of which might locally reach 100 mm by Thursday evening, has already saturated the treatment plants. Bacteriological pollution of the water ensued, which led to the closure of the 34 beaches on the Basque coast. As well as a body of water: the lake of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle. The Agglomeration informs of this situation via the kalilo application.
This followingnoon, a drought and flood committee will bring together the authorities concerned, including the prefecture and the Basque Country Agglomeration, for a specific point on the situation in the Basque Country.
Vigilance
At the end of the morning, this Thursday, no major flooding was reported. But the dry soils following weeks without precipitation do not allow good absorption of the rains and promote runoff. Vigilance remains in order and the orange alert for heavy rain issued by the prefecture is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday evening.
