With less than 24 hours to go until its official launch, the first reviews of the iPhones 16 confirm that their batteries are better, not only compared to last year’s models, but also compared to some Android competitors.

According to battery tests carried out by Tom’s Guideall the new models — that is: the iPhones 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max — showed big improvements, with the Pro Max model being the main highlight.

The analysis simulated the continuous use of devices with 5G navigation and brightness adjusted to 150 nits. In this configuration, the iPhone 16 Pro Max managed to work for impressive 18 hours and 6 minutes without needing to be recharged.

This is the best battery performance ever recorded for an iPhone, surpassing the iPhone 15 Pro Max in more than four hours and most Android competitors — except the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro, which lasted 18 hours and 48 minutes.

O iPhone 16 Plus also presented good results, with 16 hours and 29 minutes of autonomy — more than two hours more than its direct predecessor —, while the iPhone 16 Pro recorded a duration of 14 hours and 7 minutesbeating the iPhone 15 Pro by over three hours.

The basic model of the iPhone 16although it is the least powerful, achieved 12 hours and 43 minutes of continuous use, which represents a considerable increase compared to the iPhone 15, which lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes in the same tests.

These battery performance improvements are primarily a result of the increased component size and greater efficiency of the new A18 and A18 Pro chips featured in the iPhone 16/16 Plus and 16 Pro/16 Pro Max respectively.

Although the line has shown significant advances, some Android competitors still offer longer battery life. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, for example, reached 16 hours and 46 minutes, while the OnePlus 12 reached 17 hours and 41 minutes.

iOS 18 improves battery life on iPhones 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, test shows

According to noticed by 9to5Maco YouTuber Chinese Geekerwan performed a battery test with the new iPhone 16, comparing them with the iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max and some flagships Android chineses.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max, for example, broke records with 10h23min of autonomy, while the iPhone 16 Plus recorded 10 hours. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 had around 8h30min and also surpassed their predecessors.

Most interestingly, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max also saw improved battery life after updating to iOS 18, thanks to new power management that uses processor resources more efficiently.

In the case of the iPhone 15 Pro, the update resulted in approximately 30 extra minutes of use compared to what was possible with iOS 17. The iPhone 15 Pro Max saw an even greater increase, with more than an hour of additional battery life.
