Representative Bilal Al-Hushaimi said that “the targeting of the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, of the caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, is not an emergency in the political arena, but rather is considered a daily dish on the orange tables.”
He pointed out, in a statement to the Kuwaiti newspaper, “Al-Anbaa”, that “from assigning Mikati to form the government and his failure to respond to Basil’s demands, passing through the bombastic letter of former President Michel Aoun to Parliament, leading to Aoun’s acceptance of the government’s resignation hours before his evacuation of Baabda Palace, all of which are controversial stations.” The son-in-law fueled it in an attempt to secure his position in the political equation during the post-Aouni era.
Al-Hushaimi pointed out that “Bassil is looking, under the title of defending the powers of the President of the Republic and the rights of Christians, for a political victory by directing his arrows towards the first Sunni position in the country, following his arrows that he fired at Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri rebounded on him, and following his ally abandoned him.” Hezbollah on the subject of the presidential elections in favor of its rival, the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh.
And he considered that “Mikati proved during his presence at the head of the executive authority that he is a decisive decision-maker, and the most keen on the constitution, the powers of the President of the Republic, and the rights of Christians,” stressing that “Basil, who lost his political influence with the end of his uncle’s presidential term, and who realized the impossibility of his access to Baabda Palace, is trying Through his foreign tours, and through his announcement of an initiative regarding the presidential election, in addition to his visits to political and party references, the last of which was with the head of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, to be the maker of the president.
Al-Hushaimi said that Bassil believes that “by excluding Franjieh, Representative Michel Moawad, and Army Commander Joseph Aoun from the presidential race, he will be able to deliver a president with orange fingerprints, who will secure for him the continuity of his influence in the next government equation, and pave the way for him following six years to Baabda Palace, and this is what It will not happen because all the political forces, without exception, including its ally Hezbollah, are no longer safe for him and for him.”
He stated that “Bassil has left the circle of influence and power, and he will not be in the next government equation as he was during his uncle’s era, and therefore the Lebanese have only to find exits from the tunnel that the Aoun-Basil-Hezbollah trio pushed them into.”
