This spring, Basquiat reigns over Paris! The Louis Vuitton Foundation highlights its collaboration with the Pope of Pop Art, Andy Warhol, while the Philharmonie explores its links with music.
Take advantage of a quieter weekend in Paris to see the incredible double of Basquiat exhibitions. On the one hand, the Louis Vuitton Foundation has brought together works produced by four hands by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, on the other the Philharmonie de Paris studies music, from Charlie Parker to Rammellzee, dear to the young American painter. There Louis Vuitton Foundation had already mounted a Basquiat retrospective in 2018 and here she proves the artistic accuracy of Basquiat’s collaboration with his mentor Andy Warhol, his senior by more than thirty years.
Collaborations and new reading keys
Basquiat and Warhol produced, between 1984 and 1985, around 160 large and even very large format canvases, the majority of which are exhibited here. Each of the two artists takes advantage of this artistic collaboration: Warhol finds his creative vitality in contact with his younger brother; Jean-Michel Basquiat, he gains in spontaneity and does not hesitate to refer to many subjects of popular culture.
