The Swedish basketball community is reeling from the sudden loss of Egon Håkanson, a true legend who dedicated his life to building the sport within the country. Håkanson,who was 84,passed away during a basketball match between Hans Murcia and Nanterre,a tragic event that cast a somber shadow over the party of the game.
The pain of Håkanson’s passing was especially profound for his grandson, Ludvig Håkanson, a rising star on the Swedish national team. “I would like to dedicate this victory to my grandfather who passed away during the match,” Ludvig said, his voice thick with emotion during the post-game press conference.
Ludvig, following in the footsteps of both his father, Olle, and his grandfather, who were both members of the swedish national team, spoke eloquently about the profound influence Egon had on his family’s love for basketball. “It is indeed thanks to him that my whole family,my dad,me,and my siblings,play basketball. So I want to dedicate this match to him,” he shared.
