Basket Landes easily qualified for the group stage of the Women’s Euroleague by eliminating Besiktas in the qualifying round.
There will indeed be three French clubs in the Women’s Euroleague this season. Basket Landes joined Villeneuve d’Ascq and Bourges on Tuesday, by eliminating Besiktas in the qualifying round. Victorious by fourteen points in Turkey in the first leg (70-84), the Landaises crushed their opponents at the Espace François Mitterrand in the return match, winning 80-58 for a total gap of 36 points! They were nevertheless behind at the start of the match, but it only lasted three and a half minutes (3-6). Time for the Landes machine to get going and respond with a 10-0.
Basket Landes was then always ahead on the scoreboard. Julie Barennes’ girls led 25-15 at the end of the first quarter, but the Turks came back to -4 at the start of the second, before suffering another outburst (31-21).
At half-time, the score was finally 34-30 in favor of Basket Landes.
Djaldi-Tabdi carries his team
Besiktas came back from the locker room with good intentions and got back to 34-32 then 38-34. But the Istanbulites finally cracked for good. The Landaises inflicted a 6-0 then a 5-0 on them and finally ended the third quarter leading 59-46.
The last one was just a formality for the players of La Boulangère Wonderligue. They won 21-12, with a gap that climbed to +24. Author of 15 points, at 5/7 shooting, Clarince Mousdandy Djaldi-Tabdi greatly contributed to this victory. The Landaises will therefore play in the Euroleague for the fifth time in their history. They will play in Group A, with the Italians of Schio (the new club of Olympic vice-champion Janelle Salaun), the Spanish of Salamanca and the Hungarians of Miskolc, who will be their first opponents, in two weeks. Objective: finish in the top three of the group to reach the second group stage.
