NEC and FC Twente have reached an agreement on the transfer of Bart van Rooij. The 23-year-old wing defender was still on contract with NEC for one year and signed a four-year contract with the Tukkers today.
This marks the end of Bart van Rooij’s tenure at NEC after more than fourteen years. He entered the E-top (now O.11) in 2010 and would make his debut in the Goffert Stadium nine years later. He did so in February 2019 in the home match against Almere City FC, when the club was having lean years in the middle of the Keuken Kampioen Divisie.
Van Rooij and NEC continued to grow together in the following years and settled in the subtop of the Eredivisie. Reaching the cup final last season confirms this strong advance. 170 official matches, seven goals and fifteen assists later, Van Rooij is now closing the door behind him in the Bloedkuul.
Technical director Carlos Aalbers is proud when he looks at the path that Van Rooij has walked in recent years. “Bart is an example for all young players in Nijmegen and the surrounding area. He has given everything every day to get where he is now and has forced this beautiful transfer himself. We wish him the best of luck. The door of our stadium is always open to Bart.”
NEC will say goodbye to Van Rooij tomorrow during the break of the match NEC – PEC Zwolle. Aalbers: “Let’s work together to ensure a grand farewell, which Bart absolutely deserves!”
