Bart De Wever sounds the alarm on the energy crisis: “Our country is bankrupt, we are the new Greece”

“Our country is bankrupt. We are the new Greece.” Bart De Wever did not mince his words this Sunday during his appearance on the Flemish program “De Zevende Dag”. The mayor of Antwerp thus warned of the rise in energy prices and the devastating consequences of the crisis on our country.

“This is of course not a crisis that Putin caused, but that Europe caused itself by phasing out its own primary energy production during this century. The most stupid countries, Germany and Belgium, got out of nuclear power. We pushed away all sources of energy, making us dependent on Putin. Now we cling to it,” he said.

Bart De Wever concluded his speech by making a bitter observation. “This country is bankrupt. Look at our debt, government spending and deficit. It’s worse than in southern Europe. This government has done nothing regarding it. I’ve already said that in the next shock economic, we would be the new Greece. Unfortunately, it is happening now. Mr. De Croo can say many things, but he cannot do anything.”
