Barrière Deauville Polo Cup 2022, two great teams in the final of the Gold Cup! » The economic and political newsletter of PACA

We had to wait for the very last minutes of this “semi-final” between Barrière and Brittany Polo Club to find out the finalists for the 2022 Marta and Lucien Barrière Gold Cup.

It will be a duel between the two biggest French teams, the only ones to have won the British Gold Cup (Brittany Polo Club) and Queen’s Cup (Talandracas) in the 21st century, the two most prestigious titles outside Argentina.

FinaleCP-6

Nice battle between Juan-Gris Zavaleta and the Spaniard Roberto Iturrioz who plays well above his level of 1 handicap.

Two big cars therefore for this final on Sunday which were however very disturbed by a small Poucet, the winner of the Silver Cup: Barrière which is the first appearance at this level for its captain Isabelle Larenaudie. The team she formed with the Zavaleta family almost played spoilsport today. In the event of a victory, the three teams should have taken penalty shots: the famous penalty shootout where nerves play the main role. The men of Brittany Polo Club obviously did not want to go through this. Clinging from start to finish by the Zavelata, all very inspired, the team in the black jersey has never been able to get rid of this band-aid! Most of the time, the gap between the two teams was no more than a goal. Two sometimes. At the end of the match, Ramiro Zavaleta once once more tied the two teams with a magnificent intelligent goal and it took a great Diego Cavanagh to snatch victory a few seconds from the final bell by scoring his only goal of the match! The disappointment of the Zavaleta was sad to see at the awards ceremony, but this fine team still leaves Deauville with the Silver Cup and high hopes for the upcoming Engel & Völkers French Open. See you Sunday at 5:30 p.m. to find out the outcome of this great edition of the Gold Cup… and Saturday at the same time for that of the Bronze Cup, the finalists of which we will know tomorrow. Barrier: Isabelle Larenaudie (0), Ramiro Zavaleta (4.2 goals), Juans-Gris Zavaleta (7, 5 goals) and Simon Zavaleta (5, 1 goal). Brittany Polo Club: Jean-François Decaux (1), Benjamin Urquiza (6, 6 goals), Diego Cavanagh (8, 1 goal), Roberto Iturrioz (1, 2 goals). Brittany Polo Club progression: 1/0 – 2/1 – 4/3 – 6/5 – 9/8
