If, next spring, you find yourself delayed in the road construction site near the Barrière de Champlon, you can thank the drivers who ignored all civility, damaging the work currently being carried out. Work which was to be completed in November. Explanations.
A night of damage
Since mid-September, a road project has started on the N4 near the Barrière de Champlon. This consists of localized reinforced concrete repairs over two kilometers, in the direction of Arlon on both traffic lanes. This Monday, November 7, concrete was poured in certain areas to be repaired. So far, no worries.
But on Tuesday morning, Sofico, project owner of the site, and the company Socogetra, which is carrying out the work, might only observe the damage! “During the night, users bypassed the construction site closure barriers by driving on the grassy shoulder, which brought back earth and above all damaged the freshly concreted areas over a hundred meters, covering a strip,” explains Héloïse Winandy, communications director for Sofico. At first glance, the vehicles concerned appear to be light vehicles. A complaint will be filed with the police.”
The traces of vehicle passages are marked in the concrete, which cannot be left as is.
Work on this area must be destroyed
The damage is such that there is no other choice than to simply… demolish the work done. And redo the affected areas.
“At the edge of winter, to avoid having to interrupt the work given the uncertain weather conditions, it was decided to carry out these operations next spring,” indicates Héloïse Winandy.
In the meantime, temporary repairs with coating and asphalt will be carried out. “We therefore want to explain, for users who are likely to ask these questions, why it will be necessary to rework in the spring on these areas and why they will present, with the asphalt, a different visual appearance by then,” continues the communications director.
The tracks on this site will be freed at the end of November. Before starting once more, for this place, in the spring.
Not an isolated case
If the total cost of the project is estimated at €935,000 excluding VAT, this additional work has a price “which has not yet been estimated, she specifies. This will be covered by the company’s insurance which carries out the work. The latter may, in the event of identification, turn to the perpetrators.”
Depending on the situation, they risk criminal and/or civil prosecution.
Such behavior, with serious consequences for the few minutes saved by drivers, is unfortunately not isolated.
Without quantifying the phenomenon, Héloïse Winandy explains that “it unfortunately happens very regularly that users force or attempt to force passage to cross an area that is under construction. We also sometimes deplore verbal attacks, or even, sometimes, physical attacks on agents. “
Which obviously does not help the good progress of the projects. As if there wasn’t already enough work to be done on our roads.
