BOSTON (AP) — Jose Barrero hit a grand slam to lead the Cincinnati Reds to their fourth straight victory, 9-8 over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

Will Benson had three hits to back up Ben Lively (3-2), who pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

The Reds pretty much settled the game with a five-run seventh inning.

Cincinnati had gone 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position before Barrero homered off reliever Joely Rodriguez. The ball bounced off one of the lighting poles above the Green Monster.

Raimel Tapia had three of Boston’s 14 hits and drove in two runs. The Red Sox lost their second straight game and have dropped six of eight.

Boston scored all eight of its runs in the last three innings, including five in the ninth, but mightn’t catch the Reds, who clinched the win when reliever Alexis Diaz struck out Triston Casas for the final out and his 13th save.

Brayan Bello (2-2) threw 33 pitches in the first inning and left following the fourth with the Red Sox trailing 1-0. He allowed one run and five hits, striking out four and walking two.

For the Reds, Cuban Barrero went 2-2 with one run scored and four produced.

For the Red Sox, the Dominicans Tapia 5-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, Rafael Devers 5-2 with one run scored and two RBIs, Enmanuel Valdez 3-1 with two runs scored. Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández 3-1.
