The senator and possible president of the Senate, Roy Barreras, explained that they will not use the ‘Fast Track’, a mechanism that allows reducing the debates in the Congress of the Republic that are needed to debate the laws and constitutional reforms before the legislature and that it was used in the middle of the peace process.
The mechanism took the public agenda because it was known that Barreras would be looking for a legal strategy to speed up the approval of projects and reforms that the government of President-elect Gustavo Petro will begin to work on.
The senator confirmed that they will not seek to use the ‘Fast Track’, but to benefit from the different regulations of the fifth law. “These reforms require resources, are an enormous challenge that the new Congress will undoubtedly be proud of if we fulfill that mandate. To do so requires put your foot on the accelerator, We are legally studying a mechanism that is not the ‘Fast Track’ that we use in building the institutionality of peace,” said Barreras.
The senator assured that under the fifth law, congressmen will be able to be more efficient in their work.
“Instead of working two days a week, four can be worked, of course, parallel sessions can be held in all the constitutional commissions, and joint sessions of the economic commissions can be held in the pertinent projects through the urgent message,” he assured. Barriers.
The representative of the Historical Pact assured that they would also might join the sessions of the Senate and the House of Representatives to buy time in the middle of the debate on the projects.
One of the critics of the strategy is the senator of the Democratic Center, María Fernanda Cabal, who assured: “This is a coup d’état. It is the very dictatorship of the regime.”
Faced with the comment, Barreras assured: “Dear senator. The vacations in which she only worked two days a week are over. And I’ll also tell you: we will cut vacations. We are going to start working in February and not in March.”
