A family from Barranquilla lives a nightmare far from their homeland. A fire consumed the apartment, where they were residing, in events that occurred last Sunday, December 3 in Yecla, Spain.
In the incident, an 8-year-old girl, identified as Sara Sofia Hernandez Maldonadosuffered severe burns on 30% of her body and is hospitalized in the Pediatric ICU of the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, located in Murcia, southern Spain.
The couple from Barranquilla, Carlos Hernández and his partner, were admitted to the hospital since they were left without a place to live and so they are close to their daughter. The flames originated on a third floor.
The fire would have apparently occurred due to a failure of a portable fireplace that they had lit to appease the low temperatures felt at this time in Spain.
The minor’s father suffered burns on his right hand and the mother, at the time of the events, was not in the apartment.
The fire was reported by several Spanish media. The conflagration was attended to by local firefighters.
The family emigrated to Spain in August of this year with the hope of having a better quality of life and for that reason they made the decision to sell their belongings that they had in Barranquilla to start a new life in the European country.
A relative of the family assured that “Already established in Spain and in the process of their stay in the country, this fire changes their plans unexpectedly, since in addition to putting the health of little Sara Sofía at risk, it leaves them on the street without a place where live without their belongings.”
“I ask everyone to pray for the health of my daughter Sara, it is a very difficult situation but I know that the more people who join the cry, the faith increases and my daughter’s health will improve.”said from Spain Carlos Hernandezfather of the little girl.
Relatives in Barranquilla and several businessmen in Colombia started a campaign to help them financially and for this to contribute to their well-being.
For those who wish to contribute to the cause, they can make contributions to the Bancolombia savings account number 55450749256 or Davivienda savings account 488440055140.
