Vito Bardi, president of the Basilciata Region, was sent to trial as part of the investigation by the Potenza Prosecutor’s Office which, in October 2022, shook the Lucanian council. Bardi is accused of complicity in inducing the giving or promising of benefits. Together with the Lucanian president, the former regional councilors Gianni Rosa, Francesco Fanelli, Franco Cupparo and Rocco Leone were sent to trial. The Potenza magistrate, Francesco Valente, has set the first hearing of the trial for January 20th.
In the hearing last September, the public prosecutor Vincenzo Montemurro reiterated the request for almost all the defendants to be sent to trial. Contacted by LaPresse, President Bardi’s entourage made it known that it is not the Lucanian governor’s intention to comment on the decision of the Potenza court. The investigation by the Potenza Prosecutor’s Office which involved 27 people, in addition to the searches, followed three different lines. The one for which Bardi’s indictment had been requested relates to some resolutions on the distribution of funds to the regional health companies and concerns the change at the top of the San Carlo hospital in Potenza and the acts of the regional council.
