After having seen the big names of the international music scene parade in recent months, from Coldplay to The Weeknd via Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen, the Montjuïc stadium returned to its original function on August 20, with the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Cadiz. Fourteen years following the departure of Espanyol Barcelona – resident from 1997 and 2009 – and a little over thirty years following a memorable Olympic Games, the enclosure perched on the emblematic hill of Barcelona is, this season, the home of Barça. A house that sounds a little hollow since the stadium, which holds 49,000 seats, only brought together 39,603 spectators for the match once morest Cadiz, compared to an average of 83,000 last season at the Camp Nou.
