Barcelona’s star forwards, Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal, have both sustained injuries that will keep them sidelined during the international break, according to a statement released by the La Liga leaders on Monday. Lewandowski, who recently saw a goal controversially disallowed during the team’s narrow 1-0 defeat against Real Sociedad, is currently dealing with a painful back injury. “Lewandowski is experiencing discomfort in the lumbar region of his back and will require approximately 10 days of rest,” Barcelona confirmed in an official statement.

This injury will prevent the 36-year-old striker from participating in Poland’s upcoming Nations League fixtures against Portugal and Scotland. However, Barcelona is optimistic that he will make a return just in time for their next league match against Celta Vigo on November 23.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Lamine Yamal also faces a challenging period as he recovers from a right ankle injury that forced him to miss the game in San Sebastian. The club estimates that Yamal will be out of action for a span of between two and three weeks, rendering him unavailable for Spain’s upcoming matches against Denmark on Thursday and Switzerland on the following Monday, as well as Barcelona’s trip to Vigo.

In addition, the young forward’s availability is uncertain for the Champions League home game against Brest on November 26 and the subsequent La Liga clash with Las Palmas. This season, Yamal has impressed with six goals across 15 appearances, while Lewandowski has been in phenomenal form, netting 17 goals in all competitions and currently leading the La Liga scoring charts.

As for the team’s standings, Barcelona currently sits sixth in the Champions League with nine points. In La Liga, they maintain a six-point cushion over arch-rivals Real Madrid, although they have played one more match than their title competitors.
