Madrid Spain.
Getafe achieved a golden point that ensures its permanence in the First Division, in a match in which FC Barcelona barely disturbed David Soria’s goal, who was a mere spectator in the face of the conformism shown by the Catalan team, which secures the second place in the classification of the Spanish League 2021-2022.
Xavi Hernández, with the losses in defense of Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Ronald Araújo and Eric García, had to form a defense of circumstances with Dani Alvés on the right side, Óscar Mingueza and Clement Lenglet in the center and Alejandro Balde on the side left.
In addition, Frenkie De Jong, out through suspension, was replaced by Riqui Puig, who played in midfield accompanied by Sergio Busquets. The youth squad caught the bland rhythm of his team and, in the first half, went unnoticed despite the fact that Barcelona tried to be the protagonist with possession once morest the intermittent rhythm that Getafe showed in their game.
The first part did not have great approaches from either of the two teams, although the one that tried the most was Getafe, who recorded three timid shots on goal, two from the Turkish Enes Unal and another from Carlos Aleñá, all of them disrupted without much danger by Ter Stegen .
Barcelona’s best chance came in the 42nd minute with a dangerous cross from Gavi that repelled Getafe’s defense and Ferrán Torres finished high on the second play.
The second part continued along the same lines without either of the two teams wanting to risk it, seeming to settle for the result.
In search of fresh air for his team, Xavi brought in Ansu Fati, who once once more had thirty minutes to pick up the pace following a lengthy injury. The Spanish striker brought imagination to his team’s attack and his was the best chance of the second half, when he planted himself inside the area to launch a shot that Djené cleared and Balde sent the rebound high.
With the objective fulfilled, Getafe dedicated itself to letting time pass by moving the ball from one side to the other, something that did not matter to Barcelona, which by then already gave the sensation of being more aware of the clock ticking than of looking at the David Soria’s goal.
The final minutes were celebrated in the stands. The azulones fans began to sing ‘El Getafe es de Primera’ and the party flooded the stands before the passivity of Barcelona, which ensures second place in the classification for the last day.
