The president of the Barcelona team – Joan Laporta said on February 9 that plans to build a Super League in Europe were underway, after a court ruled in favor of this tournament, despite objections from the club. European Football Federation (UEFA) and Confederation football world (FIFA).
Speaking at the press conference, President Larpota said: “The Super League will be more suitable for the participating teams. This plan is being implemented. The participating teams still compete in domestic tournaments as they are today.
We still want to continue the dialogue with UEFA and adjust the schedule to harmonize with the domestic leagues. I think dialogue is the best way for us to find an agreement with UEFA. The Super League will be co-operated with UEFA but managed by the teams.”

Before that, European football was in controversy in 2021 when the top 12 teams in the continent wanted to organize Super League. Then, under pressure from governments and fans, many teams withdrew from this project.
Up to now, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus continue to promote the Super League project, despite objections from many parties. Late last year, the President of Real Madrid – Mr. Florentino Perez once said that football is now “boring” and that the Super League can help this sport “revive.”
According to President Laporta, the fact that the European Court of Justice will issue a ruling next April has important implications for the Super League. Earlier, the European Court ordered UEFA to lift all disciplinary measures against clubs participating in the European Super League.
On the same day, the A22 Sports Management company announced the adjustments in the Super League project. Accordingly, the new tournament will have many divisions with the expected number of participating teams from 60 to 80 teams, no team has a fixed slot to attend. In addition, each participating team is also guaranteed to play at least 14 matches/season.
