Barça wants to recruit Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny…who has just retired

FC Barcelona lost its starting goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, operated on Monday evening for a ruptured patella tendon. The German will most likely be unavailable until the end of the season. The club will give its confidence to its usual No.2 Inaki Pena, but is still looking for a new goalkeeper. And this joker could well be a very young retiree.

The Spanish press reveals that Barça have made Wojciech Szczesny their priority. The 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper announced a month ago that he was ending his career, but he would still be ready to take on this challenge. Only one problem stands in his way to Barcelona.

Szczesny terminated his contract with Juventus although it ran until June 30, 2025. However, a clause is still active and concerns the case at hand. If the goalkeeper finds a new elite club within a certain period of time, the Italian club is entitled to financial compensation. Negotiations could make it possible to lift this clause, or to determine whether the Pole will pay the sum, with or without the participation of Barça.

If everything is confirmed, Szczesny will take the role of replacement, but still hopes to become a starter quickly. Other avenues are mentioned to take their place in the cages of the leader of Liga: Keylor Navas Guillaume Restes, Alvaro Valles or even Stole Dimitrievski.
