Barça suspected of secret payments to a former Spanish referee

Will a big grain of sand derail Barça, which is currently flying over La Liga (9 points ahead of Real Madrid)? This Wednesday, AS et The Chain Being reveal that the Catalan club is suspected of having paid some 1.4 million euros to José María Enriquez Negreira, former vice-president of the Spanish referees commission, via his company DASNIL 95, between 2016 and 2018. A period where Josep Maria Bartomeu was in charge of the Blaugrana.

Later in the day, FC Barcelona responded with a press release. “The club regrets that this information appears precisely at the best sporting moment of this season. FC Barcelona will take legal action once morest anyone who damages the image of the club with possible insinuations contrary to the reputation of the entity“, indicated the current leader of the Spanish championship.

For his part, José Maria Enriquez Negreira insisted in the Spanish press that his job was to advise Barcelona players on the relationship they should have with the referees on the pitch.
