The Hollywood movie ‘Barbie’ is controversial in Japan before it’s even released yet.
This is because the film distributors openly expressed their liking for the scene reminiscent of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and the composite photo of Barbie.
As the controversy grew in Japan, the distributor eventually issued an apology.
Correspondent Hyun Young-joon will report from Tokyo.

‘Oppenheimer’, a Hollywood film that thrillingly reconstructs the process of developing the atomic bomb in the United States during World War II.
The movie ‘Barbie’, which was released on the same day, is praised by movie fans for its comical portrayal of the episode that takes place when a toy doll appears in the real world.
Right following its release in the United States, both films succeeded in box office success, surpassing the action blockbuster ‘Mission: Impossible’ in the number of audiences, and even a new word called ‘Babenheimer’, a combination of Barbie and Oppenheimer, is in vogue.
However, the movie ‘Barbie’ is controversial in Japan because of the ‘Babenheimer’ composite photo made by movie fans.
The photo in question shows Oppenheimer, the developer of the atomic bomb, holding a smiling Barbie on his shoulder, in the background reminiscent of a sea of u200bu200bfire.
Another photo also features a mushroom cloud with a jolly Barbie protagonist.
Criticism from the Japanese poured out when the distributor of the movie Barbie left a comment saying “It will be an unforgettable summer” on this photo on the official social media account.
It is said that they agreed by displaying a heart emoticon in a photo reminiscent of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in the summer of 1945.

″Because it deals with stuff like the mushroom cloud caused by the dropping of the atomic bomb, an illustration of a mushroom cloud rising from the back of a laughing Barbie appeared that I didn’t think was insane.″
In the end, Barbie’s Japanese distributor issued a statement last night, saying that the US head office was not considerate and apologized to those who were offended.
Five days later, on August 6, the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in 1945, the Japanese are more sensitive.
A red light was also lit on the success of the movie ‘Barbie’, which will be released in Japan 10 days following the atomic bomb image controversy.
