Barbara Streisand doesn’t care regarding her appearance. The 81-year-old was hesitant to wear provocative outfits early in her career, but today she’s not at all worried regarding her detractors.

She told the New York Times: “I was too afraid of being perceived that way then. Now I’m too old to care.”

The singer also refuted the idea that people should “dress for their age.”

The star, whose career spans more than six decades, explained: “People should express themselves and wear what they want every day. And it has nothing to do with age.”

Furthermore, Barbra has previously claimed that her attitude “scared” many men during her career.

The star has always been extremely ambitious and has strong opinions, but she admits her approach has also alienated some people.

She told The Guardian newspaper: “I didn’t want to stay in my place. I started out wanting to be an actress and I got there by singing. But that wasn’t enough. I wanted to shape things. I wanted to write. I wanted to direct. I wanted to produce. I wanted to make decisions. And that got me into trouble. A woman in charge: that scared men. That scared other women! They weren’t ready for that.”

Despite this, Barbra still refused to bite her tongue.

She adds: “That’s my problem. I was constantly being attacked. I remember a line from George Bernard Shaw’s play ‘Saint Joan’: ‘He who speaks too much truth will surely be hanged.’
