Barbara Schöneberger likes to laugh. So much so that she was the first celebrity to leave the first season of “LOL – Last One Laughing”. Laughing is strictly forbidden in the Amazon series. Even if “LOL” was unsuccessful for Schöneberger, the entertainer is even more successful on stage. On Tuesday (March 5th) she will celebrate her 50th birthday.

Schöneberger is one of the most famous faces on German-speaking television. Her recognizable features include her big blue eyes, her blonde mane and her self-deprecating jokes – often regarding her own figure. She has two children, is married to an entrepreneur and lives in Berlin. It’s difficult to get around the Munich native: She moderates numerous galas and TV formats: since 2008, for example, the “NDR Talk Show”, for two years “Do you understand fun?”, “The Star Night at Wörthersee” and recently once more the German one Preliminary decision of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The online station “Barba Radio” was launched in 2018 – including the radio talk show “With the Waffles of a Woman”, where Schöneberger regularly receives prominent guests. As a singer, she released her fourth album (“A Woman Gives Information”) a few years ago. And in 2015 the magazine “Barbara” was published, but was discontinued in 2023 following the 77th issue.

Fourth album

Schöneberger is a multi-talent and has been in the TV business for around 25 years. Her breakthrough came with the talk show “Blondes Gift” (2001-2005), followed by many other formats. “Every year I thought to myself: It’s crazy, it’s still going. “I somehow didn’t have the feeling that I had done anything for it,” the presenter recently said in a conversation with comedian Ilka Bessin (“Cindy from Marzahn”) on “With the Waffles of a Woman.”

“Der Spiegel” wrote in 2018 that Schöneberger is “the only entertainer on German television who can do everything.” She remains confident when there are live mishaps on television, for example when the sound initially went out as a presenter at her “Do you understand fun?” premiere. Her often unusual outfits are a topic of conversation: for example, a dress printed with macarons at the ESC countdown from Liverpool in 2023. “Little macarons on my dress. A total of 21,000 calories,” Schöneberger joked in front of the camera.

She gives a foretaste of how she wants to celebrate her big birthday with a wink on Instagram. In a video she shows her preparations, for example a fictitious table arrangement with guests such as Barack Obama, model Heidi Klum, singer Andreas Bourani and the tooth fairy. Under the heading “live buffet” she has clear ideas regarding how the food should be delivered: “So that we don’t have the lobsters on plates, but rather that they are on bodies.”
