Washington: Barack Obama said that some of Israel’s actions in the war against Hamas will backfire. Obama also said that actions that cut off food and water to Gaza would weaken international support for the country.
The Israeli government’s decision to cut off food, water and electricity to the people of Gaza will worsen the current crisis. Global support for Israel will disappear. Obama said that the issue could be used by Israel’s enemies and that such actions would backfire on efforts to maintain peace in the region.
After the attacks of September 2001, the high values that the US held on war-related issues were lost. Condemning the attacks by Hamas, Obama also supported Israel’s right to defend itself.
During his tenure as US President, Obama supported Israel in its conflict with Hamas. However, with the situation of Palestinians being killed in airstrikes, he asked the country to exercise restraint.
