” I am disgusted. I want to move on“. Manager of bar And Central located in the Chateaubriant town center (Loire-Atlantique), which she holds with her husband, Emma* seeks to sell your business for nearly 6 months now.

“So far we’ve had a few leads, but nothing conclusive.” If the trader, who took over the bar in August 2021, is looking to sell, it is not because her trade is not working.

What it puts forward is above all a deep disappointment due to a misadventure with one of his former employeeswhom she accuses of having stolen for almost €10,000 in his establishment.

Suspicious money movements

The employee in question, who had worked at the bar since its reopening, was hired full-time, and was notably in charge of the management of the PMU.

One day, the bank calls on the phone, notifying Emma that she has forgot to deposit PMU money, managed in a dedicated cash register, different from that of the bar. Problem: the boss doesn’t have a single ticket. When she recounts the till, no money either. The employee in question says she does not understand the situation.

The manager then calls on a PMU sales representative, who comes to try to understand the problem. ” It was only her who did the manipulations“, explains Emma. However, the employee categorically refuses to speak to the salesperson. But everything is recorded in the machineand the suspense does not last long.

There were lots of manipulations that I didn’t know regarding, with money going out and then coming back. Lots of money movements that I was unaware of.

In total, it lacks 1162 € in the box, which Emma will bail out of her own pocket. But there is no question of letting the situation last any longer. It puts in place means to control tickets and cash register counting. “At first I thought it mightn’t be her,” says Emma despite everything.

8000€ of scratch games

In November 2021, Emma finds that he is missing for €300 in books of scratch-off game tickets. She confronts her employee once once more. “She accused the other waitresses”, develops the shopkeeper.

A few months later, in February 2022, when her bar was closing before going on vacation for two weeks, the shopkeeper consulted the surveillance cameras of her establishment.

She then sees her employee there scratch a Millionaire notebook. The situation is then no longer in doubt. From Saturday, she goes to the gendarmerie, shows the video surveillance images to the police and filed a complaint. The files of the gendarmerie will reveal that this person was already known for thefts.

Altogether, Emma assesses the losses at €8,000, only for stolen scratch cards. This is not all that the owner will realize: “When she received tips, she put the money in her pocket. »

Threats over the phone

Confronted by Emma’s husband, the waitress will finally confess his thefts. “But a few days later, I received threats from a man on the phonewho said that something was going to happen to me and my children”, reports the shopkeeper, who then deposits a new complaint for these threats.

After having confessed to her thefts on the phone once more in the presence of the other bar employees, the waitress will finally go report to the policeacknowledging having stolen an amount well below thousands of euros demanded by the landlady.

In October 2022, Emma will receive a letter from the court informing her that her case will be the subject of a penal compositione, procedure which avoids a lawsuitnoting that her employee is now forced to pay her the amount she admitted to having stolen.

“I don’t trust anything anymore”

A denouement that does not convince the manager of the bar, who says she has not been heard by the courts. “It doesn’t represent only a small part of what she stole in total. She was only found guilty breach of trust. »

The former employee was given 14 months to pay out the money, which Emma claims still not received. In the meantime, the manager has hired a lawyer to terminate her employee’s fixed-term contract, on the grounds of serious misconduct.

“He told us that to ask for more compensation we would have to get another lawyer, which would cost us as much as what we lost“, regrets the head of the company.

Since then, Emma and her husband have made the decision to sell. “Today we no longer trust anything, as long as I have the bar I can’t stop thinking regarding it.«
